What is cold brew coffee?

Cold brew coffee is just like your traditional hot coffee, but brewed cold. It’s made by soaking coffee grounds in water at cool temperatures. This process gives it a smooth flavor perfect for a warm summer’s day.

What’s the difference between cold brew and iced coffee?

The difference is simple; it’s all in the brewing. Cold brew coffee is brewed cold and enjoyed cold. Iced coffee is brewed hot and consumed cold.

What equipment will you need?

Unlike other ways to brew coffee—like pour-overs or drip—you don’t need any special equipment to make cold brew coffee. Most of the equipment you need is already in your kitchen! Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Coffee grinder or mill
  2. Large jug or pitcher
  3. Strainer
  4. Clean towel or coffee filter
  5. Your favorite Christian Kitchens dark roast coffee

What type of beans should you use?

The beans you choose for your cold brew play a key role in the flavor. The best coffee for a cold brew is dark roast—Courage and Justice. Light and medium roast coffees are great for drip or pour-over brews, but the bitter bite of the dark roast is best for a rich, flavorful cold brew.

What is the cold brew coffee ratio?

The last thing that we need to discuss before we get into how to make cold brew coffee is the ratio. What is the ideal cold brew coffee ratio? There are two ratios to keep in mind.

  1. Coffee grounds to water: This should be a 1:4 ratio. To clarify, that means for 1½ cup of coffee grounds you should add eight cups of water.
  2. Cold brew coffee concentrate to water: This ratio should be 1:1. Your cold brew concentrate is going to be strong! It’s not advisable to drink the concentrate without diluting it first. We suggested one part concentrate to one part water, milk, milk substitute, or creamer.

How to make cold brew coffee.

Making your own cold brew coffee is a quick, easy way to brew your favorite summer beverage at home. The only rule is to make sure to let your cold brew sit for 12 to 24 hours before you enjoy your first glass.

  1. Grind 1½ cup of your favorite dark roast coffee. Your coffee grounds should be a medium coarse consistency. If you don’t have a coffee grinder, order ground Courage or Justice.
  2. Pour in eight cups of filtered water. Add eight cups of water and 1½ cups of ground coffee to your pitcher or jar and stir the mixture.
  3. Refrigerate for 12 to 24 hours. This is when the magic happens! Let your coffee brew for 12 to 24 hours to let the mixture work its delicious coffee magic.
  4. Filter your cold brew. After letting it brew, pour your mixture into a strainer with a clean towel or coffee filter inside, and filter your cold brew coffee into a clean pitcher or jar.
  5. Enjoy your cold brew coffee! Once you’ve filtered your coffee, it’s ready to drink. Remember: this is a concentrate, so use one part coffee and one part water, milk, milk substitute, or creamer.
